DISASTER!!!!

Marathon called off at 13 miles. They ran out of water, Gatorade, and ambulances. An unmitigated disaster. Links to follow eventually.

UPDATE: Fire Department opening hydrants to cool runners. Squad cars being utilized to transport the ill. If you wanted to know what a terrorist attack would look like in Chicago, this is a prime demonstration of how unprepared this city is.

UPDATE: Channel 2, Channel 5, Channel 7, Sun Times, Tribune coverage

If this was a CPD event, the papers would read "Police Kill One, Hospitalize 300" We certainly hope the headlines tomorrow read "LaSalle Murders Runner, 300 Wounded."

New OEMC BS From Ruiz

A new propaganda letter just in time for 911.

We better leave now...........

Dear City Employee,

As you may know, the City of Chicago's Office of Emergency (MIS)Management and communications (OEMC) has been working hard to encourage all Chicagoans to be informed and prepared in the event of an emergency, recommending they take simple steps to prepare for emergencies while in their homes and/or in places of business or schools.

As the City collectively moves in meeting challenges and setting new goals for public safety, we should also take these simple steps individually, equipping our families and ourselves with the necessary materials for emergency preparedness. Being prepared, educated, and ready in the event of an emergency should be part of our daily routine.

There is no better time to remind citizens and ourselves about how preparedness can be achieved than this September, during National Preparedness Month. During this time the OEMC encourages individuals , families and employers to review their emergency plan and to visit www.AlertChicago.com for information on public safety and awareness.

  • The Goal of National Preparedness Month is to increase public awareness about the importance of preparing for emergencies, including natural disasters and men-made events, and to encourage individuals to take proactive steps to prepare themselves and their families.
  • The OEMC will be working with individuals to provide a variety of opportunities to learn more about emergency preparedness. I am encouraging individuals an emergency supply kit, make a family emergency plan and to get information about different types of emergencies that could occur and your appropriate responses, as well
  • The Office of Emergency Management and Communications will be working with a variety of organizations to highlight the importance of public emergency preparedness throughout September
As we pursue our mission of making the City of Chicago as safe as any large city can be, we encourage you to do everything you can, both in your workplace and in your home, to make yourself and your family prepared in the event of a disaster. For more information on National Preparedness Month and aditional ways to prepare for emergencies, please visit www.AlertChicago.com

Sincerly,
Antonio Ruiz
